UK music industry revenue

I recently came across an article from the Times Online Labs Blog that analyzes live and recorded revenue grossed by musical artists and record labels in the UK. The data addresses the claims prevalent in the music industry that artists are losing out as a result of the fall in sales of recorded of music.

The data make three fascinating points: 1) revenues accrued by artists themselves have in fact risen over the past 5 years, despite the fall in record sales, 2) growth in live concert revenue show no signs of slowing, and that 3) live revenue is by far the most lucrative section of industry revenue for artists themselves as they retain such a large percentage of the income resulting from ticket sales.

Worthy of consideration.
